Emma Monroe, the main character of Cursed, is a Siren. She searches for misses persons as an FBI agent, because she must atone to the gods for her past failure. I’ve never encountered a Siren in a story before, so I was intrigued. Emma has a new partner in Zack Armstrong, a werewolf that has transferred into the San Diego office from the south, which is where Emma first met him while working a case together. They are drawn together with an attraction that can’t be denied, but Emma can’t afford to fall for anyone since Demeter, the god keeping watch over her will not allow it. I found that very sad, and Emma is very strong willed to be able to deny herself happiness to prevent harm to her partner. The case they work is an interesting one, and gets more intriguing the deeper they go in the investigation. I loved the conclusion of the investigation, but wonder if Emma will ever be allowed redemption by Demeter for her past transgression. Her situation is heartbreaking and tragic and I look forward to more stories in the series, because I want to see what happens next for Emma.

Emma Monroe is a Siren, cursed by the Goddess Demeter for failing to protect Persephone from Hades' grasp. Emma may never return home or have love until Demeter has decided she has earned redemption through recovering missing people and giving them justice. In this life, Emma is an FBI Agent which helps her in her quest for redemption. She gets a new partner, FBI Agent Zack Armstrong, who is also a werewolf on the run. Zack is the last person Emma wants to be partnered with, especially considering their history. It also doesn't help that Emma knows of Zack's other nature, but he has no idea she's a Siren due to a glamour spell created by her best friend, a incredibly powerful witch. Their first case together sucks them deeper into the paranormal world as they race against time to figure out why people who are members of a certain paranormal group are going missing, all the while fighting their mutual attraction.

I truly enjoyed the premise, the main characters, and the chemistry in `Cursed'. Emma and Zack's spark burns bright, even when they'd like to ignore it. There also some outstanding secondary characters and I hope we learn more about them as the series continues. At times Emma doesn't always come off as a millennia-old Siren, but I felt her character was well-developed. The mystery was intriguing and consisted of some very unique aspects in this genre. While `Cursed' doesn't end how I'm sure a lot of people would have liked it to, I definitely understand the reasons for the decisions made. Sign me up for the next book in this exciting new series!!

Cursed because she let Persephone get kidnapped. Emma Monroe, an FBI agent and fallen siren was banished to earth and taunted by the god through centuries and many names. Maybe one more rescue and she could go home again and see her sisters. Everyone she loved had been killed by the god for getting too close and she had to atone for her sin, only it was one then two and many more until the god was appeased. Emma had been on a missing person case in South Carolina and had a one night affair with Zack Armstrong with an agreement they'd never contact each other, but now Zack was her partner. Knowing what he was she didn't understand why he left his pack and came to San Diego...........

Agent Zack Armstrong had agreed to leave Emma alone, but he couldn't shake her from his mind, nor did he want to stay away as he was sure they had started something and he wanted to finish it and claim her for his own. One by one, people went missing and they were sure that a rouge vampire agency was the cause. Suddenly they were fighting their attraction and putting clues together to find the missing people, there is a common link.
Wow. I literally read this book in only a few hours and even though it is very early in the morning, I am writing a review for it already; that should tell you just how good of a book this is. I truly could not put it down. I had really enjoyed the prequel to the Fallen Siren series, and now I have thoroughly fallen in love with Cursed and S.J. Harper's writing in general. Like the prequel, the mystery was truly excellent. I could not have predicted how the case ended or even how it progressed throughout the book. I was also so glad to see Zack and Emma's relationship further as they became full-time partners at the FBI. Honestly S.J.'s writing is so fantastic that I was there with Emma throughout everything, every twist and turn in the case and in how she and Zack related to one another. Emma and Zack were so real, despite being "supernatural beings" and so were the situations they were in. I rooted for them throughout the book in more ways than one and wanted the world for them both. I will admit that I was desperately sad when the book ended, not just because the ending was sad, but because I want, practically need, to know what happens next. While the ending was sad and I am not usually a fan of sad endings, it was clear that it needed to end in the way it had. I am not going to spoil the book for anyone else who wants to read it, but it was totally understandable while still giving me hope for further books. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone interested in mysteries or paranormal/supernatural anythings, romances, mysteries, whatever. Cursed was truly a great first novel and I am looking forward to reading not just the rest of this series, but anything else S.J. writes.
