Great book. Helps to understood Old Testament times.
Incredible review of the history of the Israelites during the times of the Kings. David's long years of hiding from Saul and God's constant hand on him. The blessings of David's kingdom - until his fall, his contrition, and rescue. The glory of Soloman's reign. The Israelites perpetual descent into idol worship and God's repeated rescues. The awful depravity of humans. A grandmother killing ALL her grandchildren!! (Or so she thought) Ugh! And the amazing courage of other humans. Another woman and her husband risking their lives to save one of those grandchildren. a great read!!
All of E.G. White's books are outstanding. They are definitely Bible based. She died in 1915 and it is amazing how we are seeing the things she writes about coming true today.
Another of her books "Great Controversy", is the story of good verses evil and is about what
is happening in the world today, almost 100 years after her death.
There is no doubt that the great God of the universe was involved with the author as she wrote these words!!. What wonderful trip and home He preparing for and He says He going to take us there! Soon, I hope!!
This is book two in a series of five books, and it is a great devotional book. If you are reading through the Old Testament, especially through the prophets and the kings of Israel, this book will clarify a lot of the questions that come up as you read. The book before this is called Patriarchs and Prophets, which is also an excellent resource.
One of the best books I have ever read on this period of the Bible. Bible characters come alive. I have read it more than once--it's that good.
