The Corpse with the Golden Nose A Cait Morgan Mystery Cathy Ace 9781927129883 Books

A cerebral Agatha Christie. Wonderful second-in-series book where Cait is getting to know Bud, who we met in book one, in a whole new way. British Columbia wine country on a gourmet dining weekend makes for a most amusing and intriguing setting. Will Cait be the only one who sees a crime for what it really is? Excellent plot, as I've come to expect from this author. I love how Cait thinks things through in her own rare and unique way. And I haven't enjoyed the meal descriptions so much since Lawrence Sanders wrote his classic Archy McNally novels. Such a reading treat!

The Corpse with the Golden Nose A Cait Morgan Mystery Cathy Ace 9781927129883 Books Reviews

Criminal psychologist Cait Morgan, is looking forward to a weekend of wine, food, and a little investigative snooping in British Columbia's wine country. Her love interest, retired homicide detective Bud Anderson, however, isn't so sure about this weekend. In fact, he wouldn't be going if he hadn't been invited by Ellen Newman, owner of a winery and B & B.

Although Bud hasn't met Ellen in person, she has been his "grief buddy" for several months to help Bud comes to terms with the death of his wife a year earlier. Ellen has been mourning the loss of her sister Annette who committed suicide, or did she? Ellen doesn't think so, and she's frantically trying to get someone to believe her. The situation intrigues Cait, and given her specialty in victim profiling, she's more than willing to meet Ellen and the suspects. It's a decision she quickly comes to regret.

The Corpse with the Golden Nose is the second Cait Morgan adventure and a sheer delight for traditional whodunit mystery lovers. Since wine tasting is one of my favorite holiday pastimes, I was happy to read the wonderful descriptions while trying to figure out the killer's identity. I liked the somewhat uncertain and edgy relationship between Cait and Bud, who often have differing viewpoints and lots of baggage from the past. The tension that comes and goes between them is compelling, and it will be interesting to see what happens to their relationship in future books. If you love traditional whodunits about wine, food, and lots of colorful characters, then you'll really love this one.
We met Cait and Bud in the first book in this series, The Corpse With The Silver Tongue. This installment has them attending an exclusive gourmet event in British Columbia's stunning wine country and investigating the death of a world-famous vintner.

Was she murdered or did she really commit suicide? Bud thinks she took her own life but Cait is not so sure. As Cait uses her special talents to piece things together she is led down a very surprising and dangerous path.

Cathy Ace's stories really have that Agatha Christie feel. Her protagonist collects information, follows clues, is lead astray and then all the pieces fall into place. She then brings all the suspects together and slowly reveals the truth and the killer.

I really loved the setting of this story and the wine making and tasting tidbits were very interesting. I especially enjoyed learning about the caves that were used for storage back in time and still used today.

Again she has given us a wonderful supporting cast, mostly suspects, each with their own set of eccentricities. The Moveable Feast was a great way to meet them all.

Bud, the retired cop and criminologist Cait make a terrific team! Ace has blended them together with a fine mystery and some fine wine for a superior story.

I am anxious to see where Cait's adventures will take us next!
The file was corrupted to the point of being almost unreadable. A dozen errors on the first page and it went from there. I gave up after 10% of the book.
enjoyed
The characters are interesting and nutty. You wonder why they haven't already killed each other. The murderer is kind of obvious by mid way in the book but the HOW is worth the wait. By the way, who in their right mind would eat snail eggs? Read the book.
Cait once again is in rare form with her deducting. The clues are there, subtly, mixed in with flavorful food and wine and characters. Much information is available about the wine country life with its unique needs; I am not an imbiber but was impressed. And I found Cait' s love of food with mouth watering descriptions delightful. The asides were a different as well as entertaining approach to this first party read and were artfully read by the author. All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery, story line, information, and the narration.
