It isn't often that you come across a lead character in a novel who has T1D (Type one diabetes). It's even more uncommon to come across a book that offers an honest and accurate portrayal of the physical and emotional strain that living with a chronic illness can create for a T1D.I've been living with T1D since I was 5 years old (almost 24 years) and I have never come across a novel where someone living with T1D has been accurately portrayed- until now. What's even better is that this is a GREAT story about family, personal growth and fulfillment. Peter's novel is refreshing, entertaining and heart warming. I highly recommend this book for anyone yearning for a satisfying read!

This book has the pace of a thriller even if it's not, engaging you from page one. I thought I was just extremely well entertained when I realized I was learning so much not only about a medical condition, but about the nature of human beings. It was extremely useful, by the way, to deeply understand the world of who has to deal with a chronicle condition and /or addiction. I enjoyed the short chapters unfolding somehow as a film and I enjoyed the positivity it left me with. Definitely recommended!
I bought this book at the recommendation of a friend. I'm usually more of a periodical reader. Being not particularly interested in either the topic of marathon running or diabetes, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the story. It is about so much more than those two things. Yet, I found myself newly fascinated with...those two things. Peter Arpesella weaves a tale of one man's journey through addictions, self-loathing and self-loving. It really made me think about these things in a way I had not before. Beautifully written with several turns of phrases I have tucked away in my brain for future use. Brava!
GOOD LIKE THIS is a well-written, engaging story about a man oblivious as to how much addiction has impacted his life. You don't have to have dealt with addiction or diabetes for the story to resonate as the themes are universal. The protagonist's reluctant journey toward enlightenment is inspiring, and the excitement builds to a conclusion that's fulfilling on multiple levels. It's definitely worth checking out.
The author has done a masterful job of conveying what's it's like to live and come to terms with Type 1 Diabetes - or more universally, any chronic condition, including the human condition. He drew me in as a reader by creating characters whose journey I found myself compelled to follow. Once I was hooked, I could not put this book down. It's been a long time since a story has so engaged me. I recommend it. Bravo, Mr. Arpesella!
Peter has written an informative and entertaining novel that opens the window into the life of a diabetic and the effects of the disease on the diabetic and his family and friends. I especially loved the interaction between the main character and his young daughter and how young children are also affected when a parent has an illness that takes up that parents life. Even if you don't have diabetes or if you don't know anyone who does this book is worth reading for the quality.
Good Like This was highly informative. Arpesella is obviously well versed in financial, drug related, diabetic and marathon life. He shares a wealth of information on these topics in this book. It reads a bit dry, overloaded with many details to digest in the story. There are many moving factors in the plot and character development. It's a strong read, could use a bit of a soft hand with the way events are described and with the dialogues. But, the information in regards to diabetes management is especially well written and valid with today's knowledge of the disease. It is worth the read, took me just three days to plow through it.
This book spoke to me in a personal way. I have scar tissue from people with addiction who've been in my life. This helped me heal from these by pointing out that there are many ways one escapes reality besides drugs and bad health is one of those ways. It inspired me to take control of my health, physical fitness & life. No escapism or excuses anymore. I find it takes quite a bit of practice and training to break the old responses. The main character in this book helped by setting the example by failing sometimes and still forging onward.
