Pisces Zodiac Twin Flames Volume 1 Rachel Medhurst Books

This book looked interesting, and definitely contained some great parts. Overall, though, its writing was silly and unfavorable. I was excited because reviews gave such a high opinion of the fantasy book. I don't know how many fantasies these people have read, but this didn't measure up.
The story is of a girl, who, with 11 other "siblings" need to find their own soulmates to bring more love into the world. They each have powers and personalities according to their zodiac name, guardians ("parents"), and a nemesis ("dysfunctional"). This girl eventually finds her soulmate. Most of the book one or both are in denial, as they go through crazy experiences together to save each other from the head bad guy.
PROS: What a fabulous idea! Combining the zodiacs with a search for soulmates is definitely original. The powers and personalities of each "sibling" is a nice touch. The subject promises a tantalising plot.
The character craves freedom which everyone can identify with and empathize. There are funny characters, like Derek, a mentor character, the "father", and the arch enemy, Nick. Each is clearly displayed and plays a roll in advancing the plot.
I read the first page or two and was enthralled. This book promises action! It promises character development! It promises plot twists!
CONS This book did not keep its promises.
First off the overall writing was redundant, contradictory, and silly. She would say the same thing twice and say far too much. Even at the end of the book she is explaining her character to readers. She TELLS us about her character instead of SHOWing it. Instead of telling us she gets overloaded by too much information, or that she wants alone time, or gets annoyed by a certain brother, or that she is emotional, it needed to be shown more.
There were certain parts that appeared unedited and therefore contradicted themselves. For example, at one point it says something like this. " I stank. I hadnt taken a shower all week. Luckily, so-and-so let me wash and brush my teeth this last week." ...? It didnt describe reactions or sensations enough to suck you in. The first gunshot scene, for example. I felt nothing. No fear. Just gunshots. Lets squeal and have a scene with a love interest. No heart racing. No adrenaline rush. It just kind of popped in there like it was copy and pasted. No transition, which was another problem.
There was absolutely no transition between scenes. It was as if she was seeing a movie in her head instead of a book. You can't fade in and fade out in a book. There has to be a GOOD transition, leading one event to the other, so that the reader is dragged along. Things go missing if you are missing a transition. The story becomes choppy. For example she is determined to smooch this guy into believing that she loves him and use him to get away. Fade. Now its a week later, she's moving me to another place. There is a bag over her head. She must have been drugged, and...oh yeah that plan never worked FYI.
Furthermore, her character lacked a certain depth, as did her twin flame. He is running from her, but there isn't any other explanation except that he is " scared". He nearly killed himself running away from her! Scared my behind! There is something wrong with him. Did we explore that? No. Just suddenly he is all good to go again. He is a bodyguard character. Nothing more. Nothing less. He is protective. Does he have any interests? Any hobbies? Anything more to him other than being good-looking?
Another thing, you can't make every character drop-dead gorgious! Not feasable or relatable.
Nothing more to bad-guy either. His reason for hating them? Its his "mission".
Now what about the fantasy element? I'm a little disappointed she didn't discover a new power, or dive into the past-life thing. I thought there would be more... MORE to her mission. Nope. Fall in love in a sappy, unrealistic setting. (Not that there is anything wrong with sappy if you TRANSITION into it.)
The main characters do the same things over and over yet it made no difference to their characters. She is told to love herself first. That goes nowhere. She is told to surrender. Doesn't do that either. She rescues him. He rescues her. Over and over. The situations are bizarre and a little farfetched. It is a fantasy book but it is set in modern London. There has to be a small sense of reality in there.
Too many side characters. Pick the siblings most important in her life and use them to influence her. It became confusing, and it felt like the personalities got all mingled up. Also not too much a fan of people with no morals, and it felt like all her siblings wanted was sex or tease the others about there sex lives. Where was their sense of mission? Isn't saving the world, by falling in love, paramount? It diminished the goal of the book.
The end rescue scene at her father's house should have been the climax, but it didn't feel like a climax. So... No climax?
Don't get me wrong, the book was good enough to keep reading, but not because of the writers ability and more for interest in the idea. I don't enjoy writing unsatisfactory reviews, but I felt someone who has read ALOT of fantasy and some experience writing it, should warn those with high expectations like myself.

Pisces Zodiac Twin Flames Volume 1 Rachel Medhurst Books Reviews

Book Review- Pisces by Rachel Medhurst
Pisces is one of twelve. They are special and have a mission. They have been chosen to find their twin flame or soulmate. These twelve young people aren’t blood family but have been raised as one. Their father left as his marriage crumbled to their mother. Their mother has kept them under tight control since. Pisces can’t stand the way her life is controlled. She wants some freedom. She tries to live on her own but her brothers bring her back. She feels as she is suffocating. Her sign is also Pisces and she possesses the character traits that accompany the sign. Her emotions rule her and are her strength. Her intuition is rarely wrong.
Her father comes back and informs her it is time. She is ready to find her twin flame. She must find him before the Dysfunctionals stop them. Her mission is to find her twin flame and bring more love into the world. Unfortunately it’s not easy and the battle between good and evil is about to continue in this life time.
This is the first book in the Twin Flame series. It is a unique idea. I like the zodiac tie in. In fact the title was what first drew me. I’m a Pisces. So as the story evolved I was fascinated at all the characters and why they were there. I loved the dynamics between the characters. It had a definite sibling feel. The race to find your soulmate was a bit overwhelming. Pisces is the first to embark on her destiny. In fact she is surprised at what really happens. She thought it would be different and easier. It becomes a battle, not only between her and the dysfunctionals but her and her twin flame.
The story is full of betrayal, frustration, uncertainty and love. It was a good combination. However I did think Pisces acted a bit immature at times. She came across younger than twenty. Other than that it was a good read. I give it a 4 out of 5.
Medhurst creates a whole new world that I, a lover of all things fantasy & paranormal, have never heard of before. She introduces the unique idea of zodiac signs into the fantasy genre. Who would have thought?

In this world, people do not know what true love really looks like, instead all they know is chaos. It is up to Pisces, and her 11 siblings, to show them what true love really looks like. To actually do accomplish this feat, they must find and unite with their twin flame, better known as their soulmate. However, there are those that like the chaos of the world and wish to squash the zodiacs (Pisces and her siblings) attempts at exposing the world to true love.

What I liked about this book was the creativeness behind it all. The concept was extremely new to me, and I found the mythology interesting. However, I felt like so much more could have been done. Their mission is to show the world that true love exists. That’s it? There’s no impending doom that they have to save the world from? But I love that impending doom!

Besides the part about their mission, I also had a problem with the pace of the story. Some things were solved super quickly, while others were drawn out, way past their expiration date.

My overall favorite part of the book was how there was not this instant getting together of the main characters. Instead, it was drawn out, because they were both super scared. This is where one of the most important messages of the book came into play. Love is not easy, and it needs work…constant work. It will not always be sunshine and rainbows. That was just such a perfect message to me, because so many books make love look easy, but it definitely is not.

Overall, Pisces was an interesting read. Especially if you are looking for something different from your typical werewolf and vampire mumbo jumbo! Also, it is kind of similar to Storm by Brigid Kemmerer, so if you like Storm, you may enjoy Pisces!
